width 38, height 39, depht 20 cm. Transfer decorations and label of
"instrucciones" on the rear panel. 26 cm plastic cylinder playing on 15
gong notes, 2 castagnets, 2 bells and a sleigh bell. 3d quarter of the
XXth c. Fine general condition, seems complete, but needs cleaning and
a revision.

Walnut case 28 cm. Ca 1900. Needs restoration. Barely readable tunesheet.

Nº 638: A serinette by "Le Roi à Mirecourt, dep. des
Vosges" Half erased tunesheet for 8 tunes. XIXth c. Seems complete,
but needs a restoration.
Nº 639: A small merline, by "Leroy à Mirecourt en Lorraine"
Walnut case (damaged) 31 cm. Fine handle. Tunesheet for two cylinders
(only one present). 2 stops of 10 metal pipes (one open, one stopped).
End of XVIIth or beginning of XIXth c. Looks complete and deserves a good
restoration.
Nº 640: A small Intona 16 keys organette 28 cm black box.
Ca
1900. Apparently in good condition, but lacking its annular discs.
Nº 641: "Tanzbar", an automatic accordion Hand operated
with a swinging lever. Fine wooden case, open work decoration, 43x27
cm, height. 30 cm. 40 keys. With 11 rolls. Germany, beginning of the XXth
c. Seems complete, good general condition, needs a revision.
Nº 642: A very rare small 6 tunes mechanical piano Handle
operated "L. Capecchi Kilchberg-Zürich" Piano 57x29
cm, height. 63 cm. Inscribed on the back : "Le Mimoucheur Philippe Duval".
On the left, a dial indicates the 6 tunes. 32 piano notes, woodblock
(2 sticks), triangle (2 sticks). Metal frame under the wooden wrestplank
of pegs. 1st half of the XXth c. Good condition, needs tuning.
Nº 643: A large 24 keys Phoenix organette. Blackened
wooden case with cut out brass decoration, 58x44 cm, height 29 cm. Handle.
In good working order, powerful sound. Germany, end of the XIXth
c. With 5 large 37 cm annular discs, and 10 smaller ones (31 cm).
Nº 644: A good 8 tunes musical box with hidden bells and drum
Case with boxwood stringing and inlay of flowers decoration 61x24cm,
height 24 cm. Fine handwritten tunesheet. 33 cm cylinder. Zither. Ca 1875.
Fine playing and sound, good condition.
Nº 645: A good 11,5 cm disc Symphonion alarm clock Height
30 cm. Beginning of the XXth c. Restored, good condition. With 7 discs.
Nº 646: A curious cigar dispenser, with coin operation. Fine
blackened wooden case with a handle and a dial telling how many cigars
were distributed, with the motto : "A ma droite qui donnera, Ma gauche
sûr le lui rendra" (He who gives on my right side, will surely receive
from my left side). Small 2 tunes musical movement (lazy) with tunesheet.
Ca 1900. Good general condition.
Nº 647-648: no lots. Nº 649: "Gisèle à deux danseuses" a two tunes
musical box (tunesheet) with two small dancing dolls on top, in its
case stamped "Jouet Fantaisie". The dolls in pipe-clay, original clothing.
Nº 650: "Clown aux grelots" A clown with jingle bells,
beating time with his feet. A fine German pulling toy, composition
head. Lenght 19cm.
Nº 651: "Couple de danseurs" or "la fête" (A dancing couple,
or a "feast") Two dancers in XVIIIth c. costumes, in a green
foliage scenery, bisque heads and hands, wooden legs (one with a chip).
On a wooden base with a one tune musical movement with tunesheet. Fine
condition, ca 1870. Height 24 - Width 25cm.
Nº 652: A fine village scene with two dancing couples. On
a terrace with green foliage, under a beautiful tree, two couples dance
at the sound of a musical movement. They are clothed in the XVIIIth c.
fashion, bisque heads and hands. Rare and beautiful original condition,
in a transportation wooden box, with decoration at the bottom. Ca 1870.
Height 36 - Lenght 26cm.
Nº 653: "C. Bruguier à Genève", a fine singing
bird snuff box. Fine case with rounded grooved corners, in engraved
silver gilt, with enamel decoration on the lid (flowers), 93x60, height
42 mm, with a rear compartment for the key. Bird lid illustrated on top
with a very fine miniature painting of an Alpine landscape, and under with
flowers. Bird (some feathers missing) with 5 movements : it turns on itself,
flaps wings and tail, turns its head and open its beak (small accident).
Typical signature stamped under the movement. Ca 1850. It seems complete,
but needs restoration. (For similar items, Cf. Bailly "Oiseaux de
bonheur", pp 265, 267, 273). The Bruguier family were some of the
best makers of singing birds.
Nº 654: Gustave VICHY "Le petit vendangeur", a little grape-gatherer
boy Magnificent automaton toy depicting a walking man who pushes
its cart. Fine original silk clothing. Rich decoration of black and white
grapes, vineyard ... Bisque head with chestnut eyes, attributed to Barrois,
metal hands. Rare in this fine condition. Ca 1880. Height 45 - Width 47cm.
Nº 655: Gustave VICHY. "Singe fumeur", a smoking monkey
An automaton in fine original condition, richly clothed. Mechanism
inside the body. Movements of the head, the mouth and the eyelids. He alternatively
rises his right arms holding a cigarette holder, and his left arm holding
his quizzing-glass. Metal hands. Ca 1880. Height 65cm.
Nº 656: "Les singes musiciens" (The musician monkeys) A
fine animated picture depicting an orchestra of 3 musician monkeys, as
lithographed silhouettes. Seven movements : hands, mouths, feet, bow ...
In fine original condition. Clock striking on gongs, silver dial (?). 4
tunes snuffbox type musical movement. Pull winding with stop and tune changing
levers. The clock drawn on the scenery is inscribed with the brand name
Tarin. Fine gilt frame. Mid XIXth c. Height 80 - Lenght 70cm.
Nº 657: ROULLET DECAMPS. "La magicienne" The female magician
A rare and exceptional automaton depicting a female magician in front
of her small table, with three successive apparitions. Two tumblers : a
monkey with animation of its head, its mouth, its eyes, and a clown turning
its head and showing its tongue. Under a dice, a bisque headed baby sends
kissses to the right and to the left. Twelve movements. 2 tunes musical
movement. Exceptionnal Jumeau character head, chestnut paperweight eyes,
bisque shoulders and hands. Clothing has been remade according to the finest
tradition, with rich fabrics. Ca 1880. (cf. N°201 of the catalogue
of the Maison Decamps). Height 80 - Lenght 56cm.
Nº 658: A Black Forest organ clock with automata Fine
front painted in cream colour, with polychrome romantic scenes, five automata
in sculpted wood, wooden pipes, 8 tunes wooden cylinder with tunesheet,
one bell, 3 stops. Mid XIXth c. Height 84 - Lenght 50 - Depht 34cm.
Nº 659: Gustave VICHY. "Joueur d'orgue de Barbarie" A barrel
organ player. He stands behind his organ and turns the handle,
while a couple of children waltzes on top of the instrument. Very beautiful
bisque character head. It looks at the audience on the right and on the
left, and bows three times to thank the generous donors (once to the right,
once to the middle, once to the left). Fine original clothing (very small
usual restorations). 2 tunes musical movement. Ca 1880. Height 65cm.
Nº 660: Blaise BONTEMS. A rare gilt bronze cage with three singing
birds, with canted corners bearing porcelaine plates with polychrome
sceneries in the XVIIIth c. Sèvres style. Movements of the heads,
the arms, the tails. Fine general condition. End of the XIXth c.
Height 56cm.
Nº 661: Gustave VICHY. "Clown joueur de mandoline" A clown
as a mandolin player. He is seated on the back of a chair. Very smiling
composition face. He moves his eyelids, plays his instrument, and unfold
his right leg. The mechanism and the musical movement are inside the chair.
Fine condition (the costume has been remade with a great fidelity to the
original one). End of the XIXth c. Height 58cm.
Nº 662: DECAMPS. "Eléphant du jardin d'acclimatation"
(an elephant from the zoo) walking and moving its trunk, a luxury
model with a nacelle on top, harbouring four children (fair modeled bisque
heads, and period clothes). Reference 56 of the catalogue of the Maison
Decamps, ca 1900. Lenght 45cm.
Nº 663: THIBOUVILLE LAMY. "Singe violoniste" A monkey playing
a violin. On a manivelle reed organ from Mirecourt, he is seated
with movements of the head, the eyes and the right arm. Six tunes. With
a label of the Maison Thibouville Lamy on the music stand. Fine condition.
Restored clothing. End of the XIXth c. Height 58 - Lenght 58cm.
Nº 664: A large and fine musical clock picture, with echo and
Angelus In a (regilt) frame 94x80 cm. Painting with church, a
lake, mountains, characters, etc. Good and large 8 tunes "Wurtel" musical
movement, with tunesheet. 27 cm cylinder. Ca 1870. In working order, good
condition, good playing and sound.
Nº 665: ROULLET DECAMPS "Bébé tricoteur"
A young woman is seated in a gilt bamboo armchair, and knits a sock.
Complete restoration for the clothes, and a revision of the mechanism has
been made. Closed mouth Jumeau head, chestnut paperweight eyes. Good condition,
with a musical movement. End of the XIXth c. (cf. N°256 in the catalogue
Roullet Decamps). Height 45cm.
Nº 666: Gustave VICHY. "Fillette sur un tricycle" A little girl
on a tricycle. Bisque head and hands. Bedplate of the mechanism
stamped "G. Vichy". Good condition. End of the XIXth c. Height 27cm.
Nº 667: "Valseuse" A charming automaton from the Napoléon
III era (3d quarter of the XIXth c.) depicting a walzing woman. Bisque
head, shoulders and hands attributed to Gaultier. Fine period clothing.
2 tunes musical movement. Height 39cm.
Nº 668-669: no lots Nº 670: A rare musical clock with an animated scene. Varnished
mahoganny case with brass and mother of pearl decorations. In the lower
part, a painted scene with a moving mill and two moving waterfalls. In
the upper part, the dial is framed with 4 wooden columns. Height 57 cm.
Good movement. End of the XIXth c. Probably from Austria. Good (later)
4 tunes Thorens musical movement, 9 cm cylinder. In good presentation and
working order condition.
Nº 671: Cocchi et Bacigalupo, an excellent 8 tunes Meloton portable
reed organ Fine case with decoration of inlaid boxwood stringing.
49x28 cm Height 54 cm. 34 cm cylinder playing on 26 keys. Tunesheet. Plays
La Paloma, Santa Lucia, etc. End of the XIXth c. Restaured. In excellent
playing and presentation condition.
Nº 672: Bremond, an exceptionally good 6 tunes musical box,
with 4 interchangeable cylinders. Large black varnished case
96x40 cm. Height 30 cm, with a drawer for the 4 cylinders. Handwritten
tunesheet (varied program). Leverwound (double spring). Tune indicator,
zither, air changing at will. With four 36 cm cylinders. Three combs with
41, 49 and 41 teeth (only one broken, invisible under the zither). Ca 1880.
Very good condition, notation and sound, by one of the best makers of musical
boxes.
Nº 673: A 8 tunes musical box Case with boxwood stringing
decoration, Lenght 55 cm. 33 cm cylinder. Ca 1880. Completely restored.
Modern tunesheet. Good condition and sound.
Nº 674: A 12 tunes musical box Case with boxwood stringing
decoration, lenght 55 cm. 24 cm cylinder, diam. 8 cm. 43 teeth.
Tune indicator. End of the XIXth c. Restoration needing completion.
Nº 675: A 17 keys chamber cylinder organ "Maison Husson
Buthod et Thibouville et Henry Saveresse", with a label "Ancienne maison
Carnaud, A Provoste et Sciers, 8, quai du Louvre, Paris" Walnut case
58x37 cm, Height 83 cm. Not original handle. A large tunesheet for
3 old cylinders, but the present cylinder is a modern one, made ca 1983
by the organ maker Jean Bourgarel. (10 tunes, of which Bizet, Offenbach,
Planquette, etc.). Three 17 keys stops (metal pipes, partly open,
partly stopped, all are there but some are crumpled). 2d half of the XIXth
c. Restoration needs to be completed.
Nº 676: A 24 keys Ariston organette End of the XIXth c.
With
7 cardboard discs. Needs restoration.
Nº 677: A fine musical picture clock in a gilt sculpted
frame 102x87 cm. Fine painting 80x65 cm depicting a castle with
a park, a river, characters. Some old restorations. Good clockwork
movement (square bedplate, later pendulum) striking the hours and half
hours on gongs, and starting the small 2 tunes snuffbox like movement.
Mid XIXth c. Needs cleaning and adjusting. Good condition.
Nº 678: Monopol, A wall 35 cm disc musical box Sculpted
wooden box with glazed door (a few worm holes, top lacking) 74x38 cm, height
87 cm. Two diagonally opposite 52 teeth combs (one broken tooth in each).
German, end of the XIXth c. With 11 discs. Rather good condition (lacking
handle).
Nº 679: A 27/29 keys busker organ On a metal carriage
with
4 wheels with rubber tyres. Anonymous made, with some old elements.
Works with a handle (it was restored and sold by Alain Vian in Paris).
64x35 cm, Height. 70 cm. Needs a revision (we did not dismantle it). With
12 modern 27 keys books of music.
Nº 680: A 10 tunes coin operated barrel piano Art nouveau
style piano, 1,25x64 cm. Height 1,50 + top 35 cm. "J. Guindre
Le Valdahon Doubs". Some worm damage on the left side, otherwise rather
good general condition. Soundboard apparently good (but we could not see
the lower part). 99 cm cyl. (split). 51 piano keys, with mandoline effect.
Tunesheet for the 10 dance tunes. With a second cylinder. Ca 1920/30.
Nº 681: Nicole Frères, a 8 tunes musical box No
40415 (ca 1865). 52 cm case with decoration of boxwood stringing and stylised
inlay on the cover. Handwritten tunesheet. Leverwound (inner side lid missing),
3 commands. 33 cm cyl. One broken tooth, many bent pins. Good presentation
and working condition, but needs a restoration.
Nº 682: A large and interesting 8 tunes "Voix célestes"
musical box Case with handles, decorated with boxwood stringing
and inlay (small wear) 81x38x38 cm. Lever winding, nickel plated double
barrel and 33 cm cyl. Fine tunesheet (Faust, Carmen, Guillaume Tell, etc.).
Between the two 32 teeth combs (2 treble tips broken on the right) is a
comb with the 18 teeth of voix célestes, playing well (rare !).
End of the XIXth c. Good general condition of presentation and in working
order.
Nº 683: A fine 8 tunes hidden bells musical box. Box
with inlay decoration 60 cm. Tunesheet ("Ste Croix Suisse"). 33 cm cylinder.
End of the XIXth c. No broken teeth, but many bent pins. Needs restoration.
Nº 684: Melodion, a 6 tunes and 27 keys German cylinder organette
Case painted in imitation of wood 56 cm. 42 cm cyl. End of the XIXth
c. Good condition, in working order, but needs some adjustments.
Nº 685: A large coin operated Amelotti automatic accordion,
needing a restoration Large case 145x70 cm, height 1,85 plus
percussions 72 cm. Electrical motor. First third of the XXth c. It looks
complete and in good general condition, but needs a complete restoration.
With 12 rolls, most of them in good condition and in their cases.

composition head and shoulders, open mouth with teeth, painted wooden
limbs. They are seated and clothed in the Turkish fashion. The woman plays
a guitar and the man strikes cymbals. Pulling movement for the head and
the hands. Under glass dome. Total height 35 cm. L. 24 cm. Mid XIXth c.
Nº 697: A goat pulling a basket-work made cart, with inside
decorated with original blue silk. A fine toy from the Napoléon
III period (3d quarter of the XIXth c.). Mechanism inside the cart. Fine
original condition (the eyes of the goat are lacking). L 43cm.
Nº 698: Gustave VICHY "Jeune femme au masque" (A lady
with a masque). A charming automaton depicting a young lady seated
under a tree. She fans herself with her right hand, and holds in her left
hand a masque that she lifts in front of her face. Bisque head by Gaultier,
chestnut paperweight eyes, bisque shoulders and hands. 2 tunes musical
movement with remnants of a tunesheet. Fine original condition, because
protected under a glass dome. Height 40cm.
Nº 699: Blaise Bontems. A bush with seven animated birds
and a spring. The birds chirp in their nest, one bird flies from
one bough to the other, another bird picks up food, etc. Dial of the clock
inscribed "Bontems Paris". Fine condition on a blackened wooden base, under
glass dome (a crack). Height 76 - Width 60cm.
Nº 700: Gustave VICHY "Clown magicien" (A clown as a conjuror)
A fine automaton depicted in the catalogue de la Maison VICHY : "Seated
on a stool, he performs a conjuror's trick, with movements of his head

music" (according to the description of the catalogue of the Maison Decamps
under n°191). Mecanism inside the body, with beautiful movements of
the metal hands and of the head (rare characterized model by the Maison
Jumeau, stamped in red), taille 10, blue paperweight eyes.
Good original condition (the red velvet on the base was probably replaced).

Nº 702: Blaise BONTEMS. A cage with two singing birds. Sculpted
and gilt wooden base. The birds are placed in a scenery. Movement of the

the harp. Composition head with movements of the eyes and graceful

Nº 704: VICHY "La fermière" The farmer's wife A
fine automaton in rich period clothing with bisque Jumeau head, shoulders
and hands, chestnut paperweight eyes. She turns her head, bows, rises the
lid of her basket with her right hand : a chicken appears, moves and chirps.
With her left hand, she presents a bunch of flowers. Mechanism inside the
body, with a 2 tunes musical movement. Ca 1880. Height 65cm.
Nº 705: LAMBERT. "Chinoise serveuse de thé" A chinese
woman serving tea Fine Asiatic bisque Jumeau head, smiling open
mouth, chestnut paperweight eyes, bisque hands. With her right hand, she
pours tea in a cup put on a tray she wears with her left hand. Beautiful
costume and beautiful original hairdress. 2 oriental tunes musical movement,
with labels : 1) Pontzi 2) Loe Tee Hun Thiw. Key marked "L B". Ca 1890.

Nº 706: Gustave VICHY. "La marchande de fleurs" A flower girl
A charming and gracious automaton. She bows on her display stand, stands
up straight again, and offers a bunch of flowers. Fine movement of the
right arm. Movements of the head and of the left arm. Head, shoulders,
arms and hands attributed to Gaultier. Fine clothing partly restored in
the fashion of the rich satin costumes. Mechanism and musical movement
inside the flower basket. Ca 1880. Height 49cm.
Nº 707: A curious clock under glass dome with a musical animated
scene depicting a farrier workshop. 4 movements. Lenght 44 cm.
Height 51 cm. Good 3 tunes musical movement (we did not dismantle it).

Nº 708: ROULLET DECAMPS. "Noir joueur de tambour" (A black musician
playing drums). A rare and large automaton with mechanism inside
its body, rolling on the drums and movements of its head and its eyes.
This automaton has been restored : clothes and the patina on its head.
It is pleasant to look it performing, the mechanism was revised and is
in working order. Ca 1900. Height 80cm. A similar automaton is shown page
117 in "l'Age d'Or des Automates" by Christian Bailly, and refers to the
Jacques Courtois auction at the Galerie de Chartres, in 1977.
Nº 709: "Procession à l'église de la Madeleine
à Paris" A procession in a church ... Fine animated picture,
from the Napoléon III period (3d quarter of the XIXth c.) depicting
a procession with 57 characters marching in front of a chromolithograph
representation of this Parisian church. Stamped in gold letters on the
base : "Intérieur de Ste Madeleine de Paris". With a clock
(stamped Tarin à Paris), and a repetition mechanism at will (musical
movement missing). Fine original condition, fine frame in gilt stucco.

Nº 710: Blaise BONTEMS. A fine gilt bronze cage with two singing
birds. Base with canted corners bearing 4 porcelaine plates with
polychrome galant scenes in the spirit of the XVIIIth c. Movements of the
head, the beak, the tail. Good condition. End of the XIXth c. Height 50cm.
Nº 711: Gustave VICHY. "Pierrot donnant une aubade à
la lune" (Pierrot serenading the Moon) A famous automaton depicting
Pierrot sereneding the moon with his banjo. The moon answers him with a
wink and a movement of the mouth. Pierrot shows her his tongue !!! With
a musical movement. Vichy key. It works, but needs a normal small revision.
An old restoration to the external part, some cracks, period clothing.
End of the XIXth c. Height 53 - Lenght 53cm.
Nº 712: LAMBERT. "Fumeur de narguilé." Called "the Turkish
smoker" in the catalogue of the Maison Lambert under the Nº
28. Composition head and hands, paperweight eyes. Fine movements of the
head and the arms. He smokes with his right hand and drinks with his left
hand. In very good working order (a few restorations and usual cleaning
of the clothing and the patina). End of the XIXth c. Height 63cm.
Nº 713: Gustave VICHY. "Joueuse de mandoline" A female
mandolin player An automaton with a very beautiful character
Jumeau head, taille 10, closed mouth, blue paperweight eyes, composition
hands. Movements of the head, the arms, the hands. Remade clothing, wig.
Mechanism and 2 tunes musical movement inside the body. Affixed with the
brass Vichy plate. Ca 1890. Height 75cm.
Nº 713 bis GASTON DECAMPS, A laughing man, called "Le
Rigolo". It was ordered by a laboratory producing a drug for
kidney diseases, "l'Urodonal". The character is seated on a
squab [a loose cushion] : he is a joyful man, clothed in a lounge suit.
He holds his hands on his belly, and shakes his sides with laughter, reclining
backwards while opening his mouth. It is easy to imagine that he cries
ah ah ah ! moving sideways and forward and backward, to do it again and
again. His mouvements are flexible, with an irregular rythm perfectly natural,
which unavoidably provoques the laughter of the audience. No real reference
to the original pharmaceutical aim ! Clothes and feet patina have been
remade. It was made in ca 10 copies in ca 1928. In good condition, works
through an electrical transformer. Height 85cm.
Nº 714: ROULLET DECAMPS. "Le Mexicain" A fine automaton playing
a mandoline. Fine rich clothing remade according to the tradition,
and using old fabrics. Composition head (movements upright and sideways)
and of the eyelids, metal hands. Mechanism and 2 tunes musical movement
inside the body. Mandoline not original. Ca 1870/80. Height 70cm.
Nº 715: Gustave VICHY. "Petit Page violoniste" A little page-boy
playing the violin. He is seated on the base, with silk original
costume. Fine bisque head, chestnut paperweight eyes, painted metal hands.
Movements of the head and of the right arm. Fine original condition (some
wear to the clothes), 2 tunes musical movement with label. Ca 1880. Height
34cm.
Nº 716: LAMBERT. "Bébé à l'ombrelle" A
baby with a parasol. A charming automaton with 2 movements of
its head. It catches a butterfly with a net it holds in its right hand,
and moves its parasol with its left hand. Jumeau head stamped in red, taille
4, closed mouth, chestnut paperweight eyes. Base with a musical movement,
in perfect condition. Clothing and the parasol have been remade, but in
a remarkable manner, the underwear is original. Ca 1890. See the catalogue
of the Maison Lambert réf. 36. Height 58cm.
Nº 717: Lambert. "Bébé au chien" A she-baby with
a dog. The little girl opens her basket, a dog appears, opens
its mouth and barks. Jumeau head stamped in red, taille 5, closed mouth,
chestnut paperweight eyes, bisque hands. Fine dress and yellow silk hat
with laces (remade), original underwear. One tune musical movement with
tunesheet. Height 60cm with the hat.
Nº 718: RENOU (attributed to). "Singe sur rocking chair" (A
monkey on a rocking chair). As it was found, but it works. The swinging
of the rocking chair needs attention. Musical movement. Movements of the
head, the right hand, the eyes, and the arm which feeds the baby. Height
39 - Width 30cm.
Nº 719: Decamps. "La ballerine" SFBJ bisque head. Clothed
with a dancing frill skirt, she rotates, with movements of the body and
the arms. Ca 1930. With the label "Nain Bleu". Base with musical movement.
Height 43cm.
Nº 720: LAMBERT. "La tricoteuse" An automaton depicting
a seated woman on a bamboo chair. She leans forward and knits. Bisque
arms and hands (accident to a finger), Simon & Halbig bisque head (accident
and missing part). Movements of the eyes. Period clothing (worn dress,
but underwear and shoes in good condition). In front of her feet, a cat
plays with a woollen ball. Base with musical movement playing one tune
"Le Grand Mogol". Key. "L.B." Height 52cm.
Nº 721: A German small manivelle toy depicting a clown playing
the violin, with his dog, with a small musical movement. The
clown with a bisque head. End of the XIXth c. Good general condition (bottom
of the case lacking, not original violin, wear to the dog). H 27x16cm.
Nº 722: Farkas. "joueuse de mandoline" A female mandolin player
Composition head and hands. Movements of the head, the right arm and
a foot beating time. Reuge musical movement. Mid XXth c. Height 37cm.
Nº 723: Farkas. "le cordonnier" The shoemaker. Bisque
head, his left hand goes sideways, the right hand strikes with a hammer,
his head rotates from right to left, and on the bench, a small bird rotates.
Rare model. Reuge musical movement. Mid XXth c. Height 36cm.
Nº 724: A singing bird movement for a snuffbox stamped "K. G.
Made in Germany". In working order.

Nos 729 à 742: 14 good modern automata by Marie Madeleine KAËPPELIN Marie Madeleine KAËPPELIN has created automata as soon as when she was 15, and mainly in the years 1970/80. The antiques specialized journal " L'Estampille ", June 1975, has dedicated a long and excellent article to her work. She is also mentionned pages 76 and 77 in the book " Les Automates ", by Jean BEDEL (Ed. " A.B.C. Décor ", 1987). At that time, she changed her artistic automata creation activity for personal reasons, corresponding to a very serious change in her life. Pierre MATISSE, son of Henri, who holds a gallery in New York City, was one of her clients. May we propose an extract of the article from the " l'Estampille " Journal : " Marie-Madeleine KAËPPELIN goes on with the tradition, but does not try to imitate her famous predecessors : her automata have a very personnal touch. She does not pretend to be a mechanics nor an ingeneer. She is first an artist, with poetical and satirical mind. (A copy of this article from the " L'Estampille " journal will be
given to each of the buyers).

characters : a clown, a goat and a jumping goblin. Electrical, with lighting.

Nº 730: "Danses orientales" Inside a palace : the
sultan breathes and stares with wide opened eyes to three belly dancing
women. A monkey plays a trumpet, a lamp (Alladin?) is lighted. With lighting
and sound. Ca 1976. Height 64x40 - Depht 45cm.
Nº 731: "Magicien : l'homme qui se coupe la tête"
(A conjuror cutting his own head). On a theater stage, a strong
man cuts his head and presents it to the audience while laughing. Lighting
and sound of the laughter. Ca 1977. Height 56x40 - Depht 24cm.
Nº 732: "Moi et moi" (me and me) Two gossiping ladies are seated
in a public garden. A different version was created in ca 1962 (Cf.
article in ABC Décor). Electrical motor. Height 31x36 - Depht 22cm.
Nº 733: "Le singe" (A monkey). In a scenery of tropical
forest, it scratches its bottom ... Electrical, ca 1979. Height 34x26
- Depht 19cm.
Nº 734: "Le serpent" (A snake) A snake goes forward undulating
in a forest. Electrical, ca 1982. Height 26x18 - Depht 10cm.
Nº 735: "Lee Cooper" Created ca 1983 from the famous advertisement
for
the jeans trousers. A fair woman, seen from behind, with naked shoulders,
wears such jeans and undulates ... Electrical. Height 18x7 - Depht 9cm.
Nº 736: "Le bilboquet" Ca 1961. In a Renaissance
scenery, a gentleman plays successfully with a bilboquet. Near his
feet, a greyhound moves its tail. A similar copy made the front cover
page of the Journal l'Estampille. With a handle. Height 36x32 - Depht
19cm.
Nº 737: "Le chat botté" (Puss in boots). Ca 1960.
A handle operated automaton, in a fine scenery. It juggles with a ball.
Height 32x31 - Depht 19cm.
Nº 738: "Le chien" (A dog) Ca 1962, a handle operated
automaton. This dog looks at the contents of a dust bin, and scratches
its neck. Height 30x20 - Depht 13cm.
Nº 739: "Le singe orange" (An orange monkey) Ca 1961,
a handle operated automaton. It looks at itself in a mirror. Height
26x10 - Depht 13cm.
Nº 740: "Le singe rêveur" (A dreaming monkey) Ca
1963. It scratches its head, with movements of its eyes. Height 25x13
- Depht 10cm.
Nº 741: "Singe clown" (A monkey as a clown). Ca 1965.
A handle operated automaton. It jumps on a chair. Height 21x17 - Depht
6cm.
Nº 742: "Le singe clown" (A monkey as a clown). Ca 1965,
similar to the preceding lot. Height 21x17 - Depht 6cm.
Nº 743-744: no lots. Nº 745: "Gisèle", a fine dancing doll on a rosewood box.
Total height : 20 cm. Box 11,5x7,5 cm. Fine 11 cm bisque headed doll
with period clothes. The spring of the "dancing" mechanism is unhooked,
otherwise the whole item is in very good condition. End of the XIXth c.
Nº 746: "The improved Celestina", a 20 keys organette Fine
case with transfer and some glass beads decoration 40x34, height. 36 cm.
Ca 1900, Very good working and presentation condition. With 27 rolls (modern).
Nº 747: A large 8 tunes musical box on a table, with reeds,
percussions and 6 bells stricken by "Chinese" automata In need
of a restoration. Contourned shaped box with handles, with veneered and
boxwood stringing. 83x39 cm, height 33 cm. On a similar Louis XV
style table 92x48, height 49 cm. Leverwound, 49 cm cylinder in good condition,
but combs with many missing teeth. 23 reed keys. Drum (missing) and castagnets
at will, 6 bells with "Chinese" automata. End of the XIXth c. Complete
restoration needed.
Nº 748: A 6 tunes musical box Case with decoration of
boxwood stringing and transfer (remnants). 31 cm. Nickel plated 9 cm
cylinder. End of the XIXth c. Good condition, good sound, but needs
cleaning and some small restorations (unhooked spring).
Nº 749: A 6 tunes musical box, with external winding Probably
by Mermod. Simple case, lenght 37 cm. Brass 9 cm cylinder. Tune indicator.
End of XIXth c. Seems in good condition, needs cleaning and a revision
(spring unhooked).
Nº 750: A good 8 tunes musical box Case with transfer
decoration (some wear), lenght 43 cm. Right interior case divider needs
to be remade. Nickel plated 15 cm cylinder, tune indicator. End of
XIXth c. Tune changer blocked. Good sound and fine playing. Probably by
the French maker l'Epée.
Nº 751: A "Nicea" coin operated barrel piano Art nouveau
style piano 142x67, Height 170 cm + top 30 cm. 10 tunes. 119
cm cylinder (splits). 57 piano keys, 4 drum keys, 1 woodblock and 1 triangle.
The lower part of the soundboard needs attention : metal stiffeners, and
splits.
Nº 752: Imperator, a 19 cm disc musical box Case 26,5
cm, with a lithography "Imperator" under the lid. Winding through an
external handle. Ca 1900. Good condition (small adjustments needed). With
6 discs.
Nº 753: A 2 tunes musical tile In a contourned shape,
with tunesheet. A split in the tile. Rather asthmatic musical movement.

Nº 767: Jaccard, Suisse, a curious mechanical metronome
with bell striking every 2, 3 or 4 beats. Ca 1950/60. Excellent condition,
with cardboard box and instructions.
Nº 768: A rare set of more than 78 rpm records, playing various
mechanical organs, French and Dutch, large organs (Mortier, but
also Marenghi, Jazz orchestre Limonaire, etc.) and portable organs. Ca
1920-1940, a few later. Good condition.
Nº 769: A fine small 3 tunes musical box, with mandoline effect
In need of a restoration. Fine burrwood case in the shape of a trunk,
good condition, 15 cm. 9 cm cylinder (many bent pins, 5 broken teeth).
