I recently purchased a toy music box measuring approximately 3" x 4",
marked R. B. S. made in Switzerland. The song is "Weggiserlied", with
7189 written on the lower right of the title strip.
Interestingly, at least to me, is that the crank can be turned either
way to play the song. My take on this is that it was made this way as
not to be broken by the little ones.
There is something loose rattling inside when you shake it. Originally,
I thought that something had broken off inside. It is possible that it
was made this way to serve as a baby rattle. In my more 50 years of
collecting old junk (according to my wife) I seem to recall a music box
rattle toy.
At the links below are two photos and a YouTube clip. Any comments
about the rattle, the winding both ways, the maker and the date would
be appreciated.
Thanks,
