Player Piano Tracking Problem

Yes, Lube it with a light oil such as 3-in-one, WD-40, etc. That spindle
spring helps maintain firm contact with a cam on the right side of the
spool box. The cam pushes the roll back and forth, thus keeping the
paper aligned. The symptoms you describe can be caused by a gummy
spindle. If you can, take off the front panel and lube the spindle where
it goes through the roll box as well. That may solve your issue but
tracker issues can be subtle and difficult to diagnose. Good luck!
