Introduction
By Harry Couchman

Hello everybody. My name is Harry Couchman, a new subscriber to the list, I hail from Australia and I am the proud owner/restorer of a Schulz player piano circa 1926 model. I became aware of the list after posting a notice in a newsgroup looking for advice from anyone who had experience with restoring one of these instruments, I received welcome replies from Jody Kravitz and Terry Smythe pointing me in this direction.

My instrument is in fair/good condition with the best components being the stack and the pump. Fortunately the person from whom I bought the instrument, which he had intended to restore, lost interest before he managed to do too much damage to it. I am currently working only on the cabinet until I have fully assessed and researched what is involved in restoring the internal parts. I would appreciate advice or information from anyone who has been involved with player piano restoration, Schulz instruments in particular. I have copies of Arthur Reblitz's excellent books on Player Piano Servicing & Rebuilding and also Piano Tuning and I have just about memorized them. This is my first restoration project and, I believe, a Schulz is not the ideal starting point, but with care I hope to make a success of the project and end up with a fine restored instrument.

I would also appreciate advice on possible sources of parts, decals etc. as in Australia most available parts are for Australian-built instruments. Most piano parts I can obtain fairly easily (I think!!)

Thank you for reading my message and I hope to correspond with you in the future.

regards, Harry Couchman
