Reproduco rolls
By Jason Klinger
I was reading through Art Reblitz's book and was wondering about one of the tracker scales given. Regarding the scale for Operators OS and NOS rolls (Reproduco theatre and mortuary organs)there are 4 hole listed that are not punched into the tracker bar. On the bass end- Vox humana on, flute off ; and Viola on, quintadena off. ( the holes for these functions would be on both sides of the "PLAY" hole. On the treble end- xylophone on ; and Vox humana, viola, and xylophone off. (These two holes would be on both sides of the "REWIND" hole.)
I was wondering, besides not being punched into the tracker bar, if these holes are punched in the rolls. I was thinking about building and instrument to play these rolls seeing that an original Reproduco would be out of my reach. (pricewise)I just want to know the maximum playing capabilties of one of these rolls.
Also I know that recuts of these rolls are being made. Does anyone know the quality and quantity of these rolls ? I know that the Gottschalk Music Co. is doing this, but I heard that they don't have a very good selection.
This idea came to mind recently and it would be very possible to make an instrument to play these rolls. I just recently got a job at Schlicker Pipe Organ Co. in Kenmore, NY. I will start on rebuilding a Frati band organ that the company has been commissioned to do on Monday. In my spare time I could build an instrument at the factory. There are so many ideas running through my head I can hardly keep up.
Any information regarding the OS and NOS scale will be greatly appreciated. Thanx !!!!!!
