39985 bytes 59-08.jpg  Ingmar Krause -- Notice how he is holding the crank.
The barrel organ needs very little cranking force. ;-)
Is "s'Loewerl" indeed controlled with a pinned-cynlinder? Super ! }
No, it is controlled by 'Lochkarten-Faltkarton' (folded punched-card)

70339 bytes 59-09.jpg Facade of "s'Loewerl" - the big barrel-organ of Krause-family.

Good guess, there was a show of US-cars at the same time. Grinder is Günter Schmidt from
Eitorf/Austria.

84207 bytes 60-08.jpg  [ Nice scene. It shows the "minimum equipment" for an organ-grinder;
obviously the operator loves the music, and he doesn't feel the need for elaborate costumes
and all the other "trappings" [das aeuszerl Zeichen].
Grinder is Günter Schmidt (see picture 60-07)

73106 bytes 60-09.jpg  [ Cute scene. Is this typical of Husband & Wife organ-grinders?

50444 bytes 64-02.jpg  [ Are the Vienna-Fiaker-Men the coach drivers? ]
Right, they drive mainly tourists at high-prices through the center of Vienna to see the
sights of town. Many songs about that people exists (it's unique in Europe because before
times of automobiles every city had those profession but there are no remarkeable songs
about the coachmen.  Compare our correspondence about Gerhard Bronner too.

63216 bytes 64-03.jpg

49772 bytes 64-04.jpg [ What is the 'Pestsaeule', Claus ? ]
    The statue of 'Pestsäule' was erected in the Middle Ages in the center of Vienna (on the "Graben"
near "Stephansplatz") after there was a terrific epedimic plague; it was the time (I think about 1600)
when the story from "Lieber Augustin" started, who survived the 'Pest': Max Augustin he came out
of a mass-grave and began to play on his 'Dudelsack' : "Oh du lieber Augustin, alles ist hin."
He died in the year 1705.
    Yesterday I was at the "Stammtisch des Wienerliedes" (round-table of Viennese songs),
it takes places every 3rd monday in a month: you have to imagine a 'Heuriger', in every room
you can listen to a performer (btw, Peter Nagl, the son of real 'Professor' (!), the only 'Werkelmann'
who every got that title, cranked a very old pinned-cylinder monkey-organ with trumpet-sounds
I've never heard before accompanied by accordeonist Walter Meda, sorry I forgot the name of the
instrument), here comes the story now:
    Walter Meda and Ernesto (performed with 'Dudelsack' and 'Drehleier' and sang in a costume
like 'Augustin') talked about the first Vienna waltz, as supposed by Walter, was not the tune from
'Lieber Augustin', Ernesto mentioned that coming from the city of Koeln (Cologne) but could not
state the really first Vienna waltz - delightful experience to listen those experts of Viennese songs!
