Fretwork and Noisy Exhauster Pedal Linkages
By David Krall

Thanks to Jurgen Goering for the link to the Bechstein factory
video showing the skilled craftsmen hand cutting the fretwork on the
music racks by large jig saws. It was amazing to see how fast and
accurately they could work. It looked like they were cutting three
or four at one time.

But I do wonder if Aeolian had pin routers to do the basic cutting
from some type of template with the corners squared up by hand with
jig saws similar to what Bechstein used. Attached is a photo I found
on-line showing a small Aeolian organ with some of the most fantastic
fretwork I have ever seen. It's hard for me to imagine cutting all
that by hand without some sort of guiding template.

And also thanks to Gordon Stelter for explaining his method of fixing
the clacking exhauster pedal linkages.
