I have heard from several sources that a large portion of Ampico
roll recuts are not completely accurate. From my own experience
I know this to be true.
Without much of a musical ear I cannot tell which rolls do not
express correctly. I can detect those that have the wrong size
punches but not much else. I do not like playing my Ampico for
guests with rolls that do not express exactly as they should.
Is there a list of Ampico rolls that are not quite correct? Or is
there a list of recuts that are correct? Or can we start a list?
I know that Larry Givens' rolls were properly cut, so here is my
problem: In my collection I have several rolls that say, on the
bottom of the label, "ORIGINAL AMPICO ROLL REPRODUCED By LARRY GIVENS,
Wexford, Pa., U.S.A." but I also have several rolls that have the
exact same label but without stating by Larry Givens.
Are they, or are they not, also reproduced by Larry Givens?
