Harold Ball was asking about his Steck Duo-Art #69284 with the
late spool box set-up. I always figured that those pianos were made
around 1929 or later, too. I checked in the Atlas and indeed, that
would be a 1923 built piano -- highly unlikely.
But, if the 6 is really an 8, #89284 would be a 1930 model which is
a more probable build date. Clean off the bifocals and see if maybe
this is the case, Harold, and let us know.
And, by the way, why did it take Aeolian so many years to figure
out that having the tubing going through the keys on the grands was
a bad idea? Correction: a _really_ bad idea! In all my many years of
rebuilding these things that has always been a question in my mind.
