As promised, to any possibly interested MMD readers who are Q.R.S.
aficionados, here as attached are four views of the "Q.R.S. Speaker".
The first view is of the speaker cone which is all intact featuring no
damage whatsoever, the "surround" made of felt is without deterioration,
which is surprising (no moths!).
The second view is of the "driver" to which the original connecting
cord with its pin contacts are connected. I've not tested it to see
if a battery say might produce sound when connected with speaker.
It quite possibly would, so I'd guess.
The third view, being very close, discloses the condition of the lovely
"fleur-de-lis" baffle, which is nearly perfect as to finish condition.
And finally, the fourth view provides us a nifty left-hand view of the
side and very nice front baffle plus the frosted gold cone. The four
feet are all there. (The driver attaches to the cone by a short length
of threaded wire by means of a securing nut accessible from the front,
after which the back/driver/and cone are placed into the case, all then
readied for _action!_
It is all primitive but delightful.
As can be seen the cabinet has some missing finish on the front; the
back (not shown) with the decal is in excellent condition. There are
no gouges or that like, just scratches. Other than to photograph it,
I've done nothing along the line of restoration, so it is essentially
of that identical condition as Time has provided.
Because being unique (or nearly so until another materializes possibly)
I would tend to want to have the cabinet very carefully restored by
a true conservation expert of this discipline, so as to preserve the
original finish. Other than that, there's really not much to be done!
Would it not be wonderful for some knowledgeable connoisseurist soul
to create a book covering the Q.R.S. history from beginning to present?
All those characters and artists being referenced, plus the locations
throughout their time too? Naturally, 'twould have to include a catalog
of products with images. Such would sell well. (Dear AMICANs, are you
listening?)
I do hope that these three parts might serve to stimulate interest in
and curiosity about this most unusual and consistently successful
company _going-still!_
