Gillian's Wonderland Pier Carousel PTC #75
By Cassidy Juraniec
Hello, I have been constantly checking up on various Ocean City
websites and with friends I know who were involved with the former
Gillian's Wonderland Pier. I have been really anxious of the future
of Wonderland's antique Philadelphia Toboggan Company (PTC) carousel
#75 ever since the closure announcement back on August 9 of this year.
Thankfully, I can finally put this anxiety to rest because I just
heard that this carousel along with the Ferris wheel will be saved.
The site of the former Wonderland Pier will become a hotel called
"ICONA in Wonderland". They plan to have the carousel in the lobby
and the Ferris wheel in the same location. One other thing I am hoping
for is that the carousel gets freshly restored to rid any corrosion,
and a new paint job.
I also spoke with a few people from the National Carousel Association
when I paid a visit to Wonderland on its final day of operation. When
I asked about a future band organ, they said they look for band organs
that need homes, too. Since this carousel does not have a band organ,
it would be the ultimate dream it gets one, but I am more concerned
about its restoration.
Once there is more information about this carousel and its restoration
and reopening I will write another article on that.
