Ron Schmuck and Wally Venable have posted messages on building your own
crank organ. Wally especially made note of _free_ plans. Though there
are several sources of _free_ plans, you would be better off considering
a little investment before you start building.
A few years ago I wrote an article for the COAA Carousel Organ Journal
(Issue #54). Here is a paragraph from the article that emphasizes the
cost vs. value of building an organ.
"Anyone contemplating a construction project like this knows the value
of good reference material. No one document will give the whole picture,
and I believe the more information you gather the more smoothly the
project will go. All of the following are recommended. In addition to
paper documents, there are many invaluable internet sources. Many of the
published resources are for sale, but considering the value of what you
will build, the cost of reference material is relatively insignificant."
The article went on to list all the known sources of plans available
at that time, both for no-cost or for purchase. Some are out-of-date,
but I would be willing to email a .pdf copy of that list.
