Creating Perforator Control Files From MIDI Files
By Piotr Barcz
I want to notify anyone who is interested in cutting piano rolls with
Spencer Chase's new laser cutting design that I can produce "punch
MIDI" perforator control files for those who would rather not learn
the ins and outs of Julian Dyer's piano roll editing software (which
is very difficult to get running without installing old DLL files on
your computer due to them not being present on windows 10 and beyond,
command prompt is the only way to do so).
I can even take orchestra MIDI files, remove the drum tracks and
edit them appropriately if someone wants to cut a roll with multiple
instruments all playing on the piano (this is possible, and it can
sound fine so long as there aren't so many notes playing as to
exhaust a player piano's air supply).
I can also reconstruct piano rolls using another program to do
a bunch of time drift correction and quantizing (Euterpe Piano Rolls
has already done a recut using one of my files) to get near perfect
copies or even better copies of original rolls.
I just want to mention that rolls with rubato might have to be made
into perforator control files with some compromises taken to prevent
timing errors but it shouldn't be anything noticeable (dance rolls
are the easiest to process).
