Passing of Grahame Code, Australian Historian
By Grahame Code

Vale Grahame Code

I'd like to let the music world know that my husband, Grahame Code
(aka Graham Code), has sadly passed away on 11th January, 2024,
after a very short diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. He was diagnosed
and told he only had a week to live, and he lived 8 days. It has
been a terrible shock as it happened so quickly.

His funeral is to be held tomorrow [Friday, 19th January] in
Traralgon, Victoria, at 11 A.M. and can be seen by live-stream on
this link: https://www.nielsenfunerals.com.au/grahamecode

The link will be available for a few weeks after the funeral for
those who miss it on the day.

His love of piano rolls, composers and artists is known world-wide
and he has corresponded with enthusiasts for many years. He has
contributed to many international publications and music journals.

He is well known for his collection of pianos, and in particular,
reproducing piano rolls, which he started collecting over 50 years ago.
Grahame researched various unknown composers, in particular Australian
composers, and regularly wrote articles for music magazines encouraging
others to listen to their works.

Over the years, Grahame collected thousands of piano rolls and various
pianos in all shapes and sizes to play the different brands -- Ampico,
Duo-Art and Welte were his three favourites.

He would write articles in international bulletins, and was invited
to present at Melbourne University. George F. Boyle was one Australian
composer and artist that Grahame particularly liked and promoted.

He organised many concerts throughout Victoria, compering the events
with local pianist Timothy Young, playing Grahame's 9-foot Grand Concert
Piano which travelled with them on their tours. A George F. Boyle
concert was conducted only a few years ago in the Elizabeth Murdoch Hall
in Melbourne, with Tim Young playing many of Boyle's compositions[1].

Grahame's collection includes many of the unpublished works of Boyle,
along with a vast music historical collection of instruments,
recordings, books, CDs, photographs and memorabilia. He was a member
of many international piano roll societies and is well-known for his
historical research and passion for known and less-known composers
and artists.

Please pass on this information to anyone you think may like to know
about Grahame.

Regards,

Lynda Code

[ Grahame Code (who has lived in the area for 50 years), and his family.
