Quite some time ago, a question was asked on MMD about making the
Piano Roll Box Label Maker (PRBLM) program work in newer versions of
Windows. My husband, the computer expert in our family, looked at the
problem and found that the PRBLM label maker software uses code that
is no longer supported by the Windows operating system. Therefore,
it doesn't work well anymore and will continue to become less and
less functional.
Having tried to find and contact the original author of the software
(no luck there), he found a free trial version in the Internet Archive
and set about determining what file format the label templates and
backgrounds were originally in. Having figured that out, he wrote a
conversion tool that turns those files into a usable format. This would
preserve the usefulness of the purchased templates for those who now
own orphaned software.
His plan was to make this freely available to anyone who wanted it.
For him, it was an issue of folks paying for something they can no
longer use and the challenge of solving the computer problem (and the
"security" was, to him, very simple to break). So, then we got busy
and I waited for anyone to ask about the software again.
When I told him about Charlie Morgan's question, he said he believes
he can do the conversion in reverse and convert something like a jpg
label background into a format that the label maker will recognize.
This may take him a bit of time to do, and he will need someone to send
us a label they would like to import. The person will then need to be
willing to test the converted file, bearing in mind that not everything
works well the first time or three. Since we don't have a copy of the
label maker program, we can't actually test his work!
Happy to help if we can,
