For sale: a 1903 Peerless Style D Nickelodeon, serial no. 36233,
from the estate of Dick Kroeckel. This machine was found by him
in 1974; it was free of its motor and roll frame/bucket, but the
reservoir and internals such as stack, and pedal controls were
complete and intact.
This was a project machine he kept working on as he had time, and
he really just wanted it to listen to A-roll music, so that is how
it is being presented. The specifics as to the dates that things
were done are unknown, but the machine new works very well,
playing "A" rolls.
This is what I know from my time spent with Dick and this machine:
It had new hammers installed but the rest of the action is completely
original and intact. It has new Mapes strings in the bass, with new
pins. The stack was recovered in Polylon. The pedal controls were
re-valved and recovered in rubber cloth. The early Duo-Art pump was
recovered in leather.
The Duo-Art play/re-roll pneumatic was recovered in rubber cloth.
The A roll frame has been recently cleaned thoroughly and re-greased.
The pinblock is tight, and the instrument maintains even temperament
and tuning.
The coin mechanism is in place but not entirely functional, so it is
currently set up to play with the press of a button. It appears to be
missing a faceplate of some sort, so the nickels just fall inside the
machine.
To be sold as a package with 30+ newer "A" roll recuts -- consisting
of rag and jazz selections -- for $2750, with reasonable offers
considered. Call or text Julian in Denver Metro Area at 1-720-301-4780.
