Recutting piano rolls from tempo-synced piano roll scans.
It has come to my attention from a fellow YouTube player piano
enthusiast that Atlas piano roll 3975, "Happy Days Are Here Again",
played by Phil Lynch, has been recut by Euterpe Piano Rolls in the
Netherlands.
The recut was made from the scan of the roll that _I made_ and that
I painstakingly tempo-synced and -quantized to even out all video
scan tempo roughness and other issues from the tedious process I use.
First of all, I'd like to mention that this is _exactly_ what I make
these piano roll reconstructions for: new roll masters!
However I'd like to say that _those scans are not suitable right off
the bat for roll production._ If you would like to recut any rolls from
quantized scans I've produced, _email me first, I will make the roll
master._ There is no need for any recutting service people wasting
their time editing out chord roughness (chords that start fine but end
with notes of uneven length) and other inconsistencies that will waste
time being perforated and make ugly recuts!
I use Julian Dyer's perforation editing program to make near _perfect_
copies of rolls. I make sure chords are two punches in length,
everything is even, gaps are correct, etc. You do _not_ need to pay
someone else to do this adding additional cost to the recutting process!
I also would like to know where my scan remasters are going, as they
take a long time to make and the best pay is seeing the work be used on
a real piano! If you record a recut made from my scan remaster on video,
please send it to me as there is nothing more satisfying for someone
like me to see his work being used for something more than a YouTube
video!
Once again, I'd like to point out that by all means, do use those scans,
but at least let me clean them up before cutting new rolls!
