[ Ref. 231113 MMD. Spencer was asked, "How many of the files
[ are new, as opposed to being previously available from you?"
About 16,000 files are new. I am including my 5000 emulations and the
following 10,000 files from the makers of A2M; they called it "big
MIDI". These are some of the files that trained the AI; unfortunately,
the meta data sucks -- including no composer data and the fields are
hard to parse in the "database" they provide -- so I am figuring out
ways to get at least some meta data into the MIDI files.
Then there are 6000 files from ripped audio CDs that I have collected
over many years. These are the CDs that are solo piano, with a wide
range of music and all good, but without listening to each one it is
not possible to know how well each one converted. I "borrowed" a fast
gaming computer from Costco for a week; it took 5 days to process the
6000 files.
I believe that the meta data was added successfully but I'm still
working on that. The data is there but a lot of the CDs were ripped
with an early machine that really mangled the meta data, so some of
the music is "played by Chopin," for example. But the majority were
done later, ripped on a PC, and with FreeDB and better meta data.
Then there are about 1700 files from a friend who processed both my
files and his own. There will be a lot of overlap with the 6000, so
maybe just another 500 unique titles. I am struggling with meta data
for them.
I am also writing a program to update collections and playlists used
by my eroll player so the computer naive person will not have to screw
around with this. Updating will be necessary if I ever update the meta
data in the files but that is probably not going to happen without help.
My cancer prognosis is not great and, although I am doing my best to
beat the odds, I probably do not have much more time on Planet Earth.
I have a lot of tools for automating the process of adding the meta
data, but just not the time. It would be great to have someone improve
the data for the 10000 files. Anyone?
