As soon as I saw Jeff's post on the digest I wanted to get my two
cents in as quick as I could.
I've been using this program for the last year and a half to make
transcriptions of live performances and, as Jeff pointed out, the
long notes from the conversion process are an obvious issue. However,
for playback on solenoid player pianos, using a note spacing program
will make the notes have gaps between the ends and starts.
Shortening the notes is otherwise mostly useful for visual purposes
or when you want to convert the transcription to sheet music using
tempo scaling, quantizing, and conversion to a score with a digital
sheet music making program like MuseScore.
For those who want to use this program, download the Windows executable
here; it is much easier than using Python:

I'd also like to point out that this program is very picky as to what
kind of piano it likes. I'm serious! This thing loves Steinways and
Yamahas but sneezes at uprights and most old recordings from the 1930s.
So be advised that sometimes this will be more trouble than it's worth
and a hand-made transcription [will be] more efficient to make.
This message was rushed, please excuse the jumbled layout...
