Pianola Concert at the Royal Albert Hall London
By Julian Dyer
The programme for the recital by Michael Broadway is easily found by
clicking on the 'Repertoire' tab. I've copied the basic details below.
As far as I can see it is all production Aeolian Themodist rolls, some
quite common but others are rarities from the arranged- or composed-for
Pianola series commissioned by Edwin Evans in 1917. Rolls in this series
sold in tiny numbers but all were copied by Southport Music Rolls some
30 years ago at Michael's behest. They have formed a major part of the
Pianola-concert repertoire for as long as there have been such concerts.
Michael has one of the largest Pianola-roll collections I know of , the
result of decades of assiduous collecting and a lot of hard work. I'm
certain there will be none on sale at the concert!
