Greetings Fellow MMDers, I'm in the process of restoring a 48-note
Racca Piano Melodico. I was going great guns until I moved to work
on the hammers. They are in very poor condition, having kept an
enormous number of moths alive for some years, I would say by
the damage.
I would be interested in some advice/knowledge on how best to go about
recreating a set of hammers from material available today, bearing in
mind these hammers are very much smaller than a piano hammer and hang
off the end of an oscillating piece of spring steel.
From my current knowledge of the restored mechanism I'm expecting that
they need to be sized to be able to strike the strings by being close
enough, but far enough away so that continued reverberation does not
occur.
If there is an MMDer that has successfully replaced these hammers,
I would be eternally grateful to hear from you.
All the best and thanks for reading the post.
