I have found a collection of thousands of piano rolls in an estate
situation. Most are 88-note rolls that have not been picked over. In
a quick scan I saw several ragtime rolls, and there are probably some
rare ones. There are more than a hundred Duo-Art original and a few
Ampico rolls. The collection includes other types such as pin-end.
These all need to be passed on to other collectors. Because of the
situation, the owner cannot search for specific rolls or ship them.
You would need to come to Ames, Iowa, to pick them up. Ames is on
Interstate 35, just 30 miles north of Interstate 80 and Des Moines.
With prior arrangement you can search the collection and choose
rolls at $2 each. You can buy rolls in bulk without picking at $25
per hundred. If you want to take the entire collection (estimated at
10,000), a very reasonable price can be negotiated. After part of the
collection is gone the remainder may be offered free. Most are assumed
to be playable, and all the ones I checked looked good.
I have no financial interest in this; I am just trying to help the
heirs of a long-time collector, and find new homes for all of the rolls.
