FS: Antique Horizontal Mill for Wooden Gears
By William Edgerton
For Sale: an antique, small horizontal milling machine and about
150 cutters that I bought forty years ago from a retiring machinist,
and it is perfect for making new wooden gears used on most barrel
organs. I have done that with excellent results.
Most horizontal mills are the size of an SUV but this one is about
a 2-foot cube mounted on a steel work table. There is a half-horse
110-volt motor and an ingenious mechanical drive for the lengthwise
table movement. The actual table is 4 x 16 and it has the potential
of about 14 inches lengthwise and 8 inches front to back.
It is in Naples, Florida, and when unmounted from the table both
would fit in a big SUV. I'm prepared to show a buyer how to use it
for making gears and have one gear that I made on this mill to see.
I'm downsizing my shop and it is for sale for $600 which is less than
the cutters themselves are worth. For a picture and more information
please write
