New Duo-Art Roll: Florence Price's Fantasie Negre No. 1

Let me explain a bit more about the video that was linked here a few
days ago without naming the music. It shows the making of a brand-new
Duo-Art roll of Florence Price's Fantasie Negre No 1, played by Allyson
Devenish FRCM [Fellow, Royal College of Music].
Allyson specialises in black female composers, and very kindly agreed
to make a recording for the UK's North West Player Piano Association
to mark its 50th anniversary. This is the first roll made of Florence
Price's work; she's a 'forgotten' composer who is rapidly and deservedly
becoming better-known. This was performed on a Disklavier and translated
directly to roll format, notably using software written by Nigel Epsom
to create Duo-Art coding from MIDI velocities.
This video shows the process from performance to roll production:

at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cmkspsBxW0
The roll can be purchased via my website -- it'll be listed after
Christmas.

[ Julian wrote to me, "If you compare the original performance on the
[ first video link with the final Duo-Art roll in the second you can
[ hear how well Nigel Epsom's software recreates the dynamics. I edited
[ the music (with a bit of finish from Adam Ramet), deliberately
[ leaving almost all the note times untouched except obvious fluffs.
[ The MIDI-to-roll conversion is a great deal less 'lossy' in terms
[ of timing preservation than either Duo-Art or Ampico production
[ technology, and there's a great deal of naturalism in the roll."
