Season's Greetings! My name is Nate Otto, and I've been restoring
player pianos full-time for four years now. When I'm not working on
instruments for clients and I "just need to get away from it all",
I work on my own collection of instruments. I recently started the
restoration of my 1917 Haddorf 88-note player piano (with prairie
school cabinet!).
I often feel like I'm operating "in a vacuum" here in my little piano
shop. We all know restoration isn't the most glamorous or interesting
work. Regardless, I have decided to create a series of videos about
my Haddorf restoration project and upload them to YouTube.
They're by no means a tutorial or guide on how to restore a piano,
but rather an overview of my experience (and often inexperience) and
process of bringing this instrument back to life. My hope is that these
videos appeal to a younger generation. If I'm lucky, maybe they'll
inspire someone to give player pianos a closer look.
If you'd like to check them out, I've included links to the first five
episodes. If you know a young-un' who might find them of interest,
would you please share these with them?
