Professor Roger Buckley, active in the UK as a collector and researcher
of player pianos and reproducing pianos, and as a member of the Player
Piano Group since the 1960s, passed away on Wednesday 12th October at
Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, UK, where he was being treated for
an infection.
Roger had been unwell for some months, having first undergone open heart
surgery, which was not without its complications, but then, in March of
this year, he suffered a stroke which affected his left side, from which
he was slow to recover.
He will be much missed by the Player Piano Group of Great Britain, of
which he had been a member and committee member since the 1960s, holding
the elected post of Vice President for the last decade or more.
He was also a trustee of the Delius Society and, as one of the UK's
leading eye surgeons and a leading expert in the field of contact
lenses, he was held in great esteem by his own profession.
A charming, erudite and diplomatic man, he will be greatly missed.
