In the carousel at Flushing Meadows - Corona Park of Queens,
New York City, sits the remnants of the largest organ made by the
Gebrueder Bruder firm: the Style 102 106-keyless "Elite Orchestra
Apollo" organ.
Originally built in 1912 for Stubbman's beer tent in Coney Island,
it was later moved to the carousel, and in the 1930s was converted
to playing 87-key music by the B.A.B. company.
Nowadays, the organ is in deplorable condition. The top proscenium,
the hand bells played by the organ, and the life-sized center statue
are all missing, with the latter being safe overseas. The exposed
brass trumpets and turned wooden saxophones in the side cases have
been stolen and damaged over the years. The paint, which probably
isn't original, is beginning to strip.
I am looking for any technical info this organ anybody can provide.
Any photos of the rear pipework would be especially appreciated.
I understand the original 106-keyless scale is in an archive in
Waldkirch, Germany, and I am actively trying to get a copy. In the
meantime, do let me know if you have any info or photos you are
willing to share.
