The aged bellows cloth in the Ampico pump has begun to leak and must
be replaced. An unexpected problem came when trying to remove the
large pulley which actuates the four bellows: the pulley hides wood
screws that secure the bellows.
Try as I might, applying force to the 15.2-inch diameter pulley in
the direction opposite the arrow on the steel place hasn't worked.
This might be encountered on pumps since the normal rotation would
tighten the screw in the center of the pulley.
Are there any fixes for this problem? It is easy to turn the pulley
but there seems to be no way to apply a wrench to the shaft inside
of the pump. Where is the village smithy when you need him?
Also, I am wondering, what fabrics are used nowadays on the reproducing
piano pumps?
Thanks to MMDers for their suggestions I received about pump failure.
