For immediate sale (Short Notice): Mid-1920s 5'-4" Knabe Ampico "A"
grand, plain case, mahogany wood. The serial number could not be
located, but it bears a "case" or assembly number of 2138. The
original finish is in excellent shape; genuine ivory keytops are in
perfect condition with no chips or other defects.
The piano and Ampico underwent restoration of uncertain scope about
20 years ago. It appears, at least, that the piano was restrung, with
new hammers and dampers that look to have seen little subsequent use;
however, the pin block or tuning pins were likely not replaced at
that time.
The striker pneumatics were recovered with a material that appears
still serviceable. Other aspects of the Ampico restoration (valves,
tubing, etc.) may or may not require further attention. There are
approximately 126 Ampico rolls, mostly original, with a few QRS
brand Ampico recuts, and about 20 non-Ampico rolls. Most appear to
be in playable condition. There is a manual tracker bar pump and
a matching bench.
Price $3500 or best offer; negotiable. The instrument is currently in
storage in suburban Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Viewing arrangements can
be made by contacting the seller, Don Russell, at tel.: 1-215-290-1578.
Time is of the essence.
