Early QRS Artist Identification
By Rich Schommer

The 1920 QRS Roll Catalog lists the artist of "Cecile", QRS 100099,
as Ashley M. Ballou.

I found records for Ashley Melvin Ballou on FamilySearch. His WW1
draft registration says he was the Musical Director at the Blackstone
Hotel in Chicago. He died in Florida in 1947.

Alliance, Nebraska

[ The Benson Orchestra was a feature at the Blackstone Hotel. Found on
[ page 22 of the journal, "The Bank Man", Vol. XVIII, May 1922, No. 5:
[ "Benson's Orchestra, with the well known Ashley Ballou at the piano,
[ brought out present day tunes to the pleasure of all concerned."
