FS Free: Harvey Roehl Spelling Errors Slide Show
By William Edgerton
Old timers will recall that Harvey Roehl ran the Vestal Press in
a suburb of Binghamton, New York, and he published many books on
mechanical music, starting with Player Piano Treasury.
Harvey was also a collector of pictures of signs showing incorrect
spelling. His collection is several hundred 35-mm slides and some
printed images. I founded and ran the Mechanical Music Library,
International, now at the Morris Museum in Morristown, New Jersey.
Harvey's collection of slides was given to the Library, but since
they have nothing to do with mechanical music they are up for grabs.
There is enough there for a small book which would be fun, even
without the background information such as where each sign was located.
Or, perhaps you know someone who would arrange slide shows and preserve
this piece of nostalgia in some meaningful way. Please let me know if
you or someone you know might be interested.
