For sale: a Chickering Ampico, 6'-6", in a medium mahogany case with
some sun damage on the lid. Repinned and restrung in the late 1980s;
the copper windings still look like new, reproduces very well with
a wonderful bass sound. The serial number was covered up but I assume
late 1920s. With a non-matching but similar bench.
Two minor case blemishes on the legs, some ivories were replaced and
the colors are a little uneven on close inspection. Chickering made
fine instruments. Price $2,000. Located in Southwest Florida.
Also available to the piano buyer: 205 Ampico rolls, some rare and
desirable selections, a few bad boxes, a few recuts, almost entirely
classical. Price $1,000 for the lot, plus shipping if shipping is
required.
We sold this piano at Mechanical Music Center in Darien, Connecticut,
in the late 1980s, for $17,000 just after restoration. It has been
in one house in the Midwest ever since. Request more information
if interested.
