Dear friends of mechanical music, I have the honour to announce
the December, 2021, Journal No. 142 of the German "Gesellschaft
fuer Selbstspielende Musikinstrumente". For this issue we were
able to win not only many well-known authors but also new ones
from Germany and abroad.
With Andreas Arand we welcome a profound connoisseur of the Welte
Philharmonic organ and its technical equipment, who as an organist
has delivered a musicologically and technically noteworthy report
on a mother roll that Max Reger played at Welte.
Martin Paris of the Speelklok Museum in Utrecht, The Netherlands,
gives us insights into the development of his re-creation of a
Componium based on the concept of Diederich Nicolaus Winkel.
Wilfried Glöckner reports on his digitization project for Ariston discs,
which is followed by a report from one of our most loyal contributors,
Dr. Albert Loetz, who also discusses the possibilities of digitization,
this time of sheet metal plates for musical disc boxes.
In his article Paul Bellamy describes the history of the family of
the Lecoultre brothers and Ralf Smolne reports in the second part of
his workshop report about the completion of the work on his music box
cylinder.
In the section "Noted for You" you can read the reports about the
activities of the visitors of our AGM in Berlin, the exhibition
"Jeu continu..." in Seewen, Switzerland, and the days of Waldkirch's
annual days of barrel and fairground organs.
As always, you will find reviews of new publications and the overview
of the journals of our foreign sister associations. We wish you a
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Musical regards,
Uwe Gernert - Editor, Das Mechanische Musikinstrument
