Hi Tom, I really appreciated your pictures of your Model A Ford. It
sure is a beauty. I grew up with two Model A trucks on our farm in
central Indiana. I acquired my own 1930 Model A coupe before my junior
year in high school. Drove it until I graduated from high school and
joined the Navy. At that point my brother drove my Model A through
his college days.
Upon discharge from the Navy I started college at Indiana University
and drove it through all four years. Upon graduation from IU I was
employed at several academic institutions and my '30 Model A coupe
followed me to all my locations. The Model A did not fit well with
the high density city traffic of Miami, Florida, and for two years
it stayed garaged. At that point I moved the Model A and my family
to Columbia, Missouri, where I had a teaching job at University of
Missouri.
Now I have made several big mistakes in life, but one of the bigger
ones was selling the Model A which had been part of my life for several
decades. A local collector made me an offer that was too good to refuse;
he in turn traded it to the owner of Wendy's and the last I heard it is
in that collection.
As you might have guessed I have been an active member of the mechanical
music field for many decades. Many years ago I developed, manufactured
and sold over 200 piano roll repair tables. Now at 86 I'm slowing down
but I still would like to drive a Model A Ford again before I go. Maybe
there will be Model A's in the hereafter!
Best regards,
Tom Hutchinson
