Cable Euphona Rewind is Unreliable
By Fred Martin
I have a Cable Euphona 'Reproducing Inner Player' piano. I have
a large collection of rolls for it. I have had a problem with the
automatic rewind not working most of the time and had to manually
push the Temple control to zero (0) to get it to rewind.
Recently I was informed that I should be playing the rolls with
'Recordo' as part of the label. It seems that a reproducing piano
actually reproduces the action of pressing the pedals while the
usual rolls don't do that.
I noticed that when I played the Recordo rolls the piano sounded
really awesome and the rewind worked perfectly. I then opened the
top front and watched the action of the leather brake pad and pushed
on it while playing a regular roll and it started to rewind every
time with a normal roll!
Okay, to the point, the regular rolls have the release holes for the
pedal pneumatics alongside the rewind holes!
The roll jumped with so many holes triggering the pneumatics. I tried
a full range of adjusting the brake pad to no avail.
Because I prefer to play the Recordo rolls, I have it adjusted for
the them and when I play a regular roll, I push my finger against the
take up roll and the little additional tension causes it to rewind
when the rewind (at the end of the roll) holes are present.
