Ben Roth asks (210917 MMDigest) if anyone has the 4-roll set of
Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring" on Aeolian Themodist Metrostyle.
I have just the first roll, T2450, which contains the complete
Part 1 of the ballet. I too would be interested to know if there
are any complete sets out there, or if anyone has individual
copies of the other three rolls.
The leader on my roll is ripped and torn, with the point missing,
and bears the scars of use as if it were a roll of a popular
ragtime hit! The box had already gone, when I acquired the roll
from an on-line auction 30 or so years ago. It is good to think
that someone actually played it repeatedly, and presumably enjoyed
playing it.
For those of you who don't know the music, it is not exactly
sing-a-long party material; however, for those who like Stravinsky,
his percussive music sounds darn good on the piano. This roll is
particularly well arranged, though it helps, when playing it,
if you know the orchestral original.
I would be happy to lend this roll for scanning or copying if it
turns out to be a rarity.
Greetings from the UK,
Rowland Lee
