I found a clock maker who can make the special governor contacts for
the drive motor on the late model 65-note Tel-Electric and 88-note
Telektra piano players. The tiny platinum electrodes are mounted within
screw carriers. See the drawings, courtesy of Bob Billings, at the
links below.
The clock maker can also make up new Delrin plastic governor friction
caps. (The Bakelite originals tend to split.) He is going to work up
prices for me for the three items. The most expensive part is the
platinum rod for the electrode part of each of the two screws.
I have observed in playing my machine that the platinum in the "fixed"
contact (drawing TE8) burns down at a much faster rate than the
"moving" contact (drawing TE9) and needs to be replaced more often.
I think a single set of contacts would be 3 of the fixed contacts and
1 of the moving contacts.
Anyone with either of the Tel-Electric machines who would be interested
in purchasing new contacts should contact me so I can determine how
many sets to have made.
