Up-date on 'Queen Victoria's orchestrion'
MMDers who have been following the fate of the Imhof & Mukle orchestrion
located in Kinloch Castle, Rum, Scotland, may be interested to know that
the 'castle' (in reality a large stately hunting lodge from the Edwardian
era) has been put up for sale by the Scottish state. This follows the
failure by the local community and the charitable Friends of Kinloch
Castle Association to raise sufficent funds to buy it and restore it.
It is unclear whether the sale will incude the orchestrion along with
all the other contents, although this seems likely. Unless it is sold to
a sympathetic owner, the building will ultimately have to be demolished.
One hopes that at least the orchestrion, in dire need of restoration,
will be rescued, if not the castle itself.
