Hi Jody, I would like to remind MMD readers that have an "O"-roll-playing
piano or nickelodeon that SB-"O" rolls are still for sale. A list (on one
sheet) of my six "O" rolls is in the MMD Archives [link below], giving
a total of 69 tunes which took a few years to make.
I made a perforator which 'will never wear out'. I had a lathe on the ship
I was on which helped. The punch block is from a Singer sewing machine;
not all Singers had this style.
If you ask the public today, most will not have heard of player pianos.
Ray Siou did advertise rolls and he sold quite few. He was the "prime
agent," selling rolls to other agents.
Ray was quite a character, and extra "smart" as well. I once remarked
to him that the paint was peeling off his business sign. He replied,
"If it is a good, neat sign then people will know there is something
to steal in there!"
I visited his place a few times. One of those times, when I was standing
outside his garage doors, one of his cats did a weird dancing movement
for about ten seconds after which a minor earthquake began. The cat
sensed this before we humans did!
