Sega Toys "Grand Pianist"
By Dave Kerr

Many of you will recall the introduction in 2009 of the Sega Toys
"Grand Pianist", a 1/6-scale visually faithful model of a 6-foot grand
piano with 88 articulated keys reproducing the fingering of the 100
built-in music selections. Several 2GB SD cards were also available
for more music. The tabletop size of the piano is about 13" long.

Some of you may even have purchased this intriguing device to add to
collections of piano ephemera and models. They were not inexpensive --
approximately US$500 at the time -- and currently used ones are
appearing on eBay ranging from $300 for low condition to well over
$1200 for boxed ones. I was recently bequeathed a pristine complete
boxed edition Grand Pianist by a dear friend who passed.

Although intended for world-wide sales, Sega Toys mainly targeted
the Japanese market and currently has no support on its website.
Meanwhile, my version comes with only the Japanese language user
manual. I understand that an English manual was prepared yet I can
find no existence of it in deep dive web searches.

It's easy enough to figure out the controls but I would like to be
able to explore the full capabilities and program my own SD cards
from MIDI files scanned from my roll collection over the years.
There is conversion software that converts NUDU to the FEM format
the piano can load.

Does someone here possess the English manual in scanned or .pdf format?
I would appreciate any information or assistance you could offer.

Not many videos of the Grand Pianist are out there but here is one I like:

I have regretfully not posted to the Digest in many years due to
medical misadventures and I do read it every day. I am now retired,
equipped with leg bypasses, an Eiffel Tower of stents around my heart
and a pacemaker; I am able to get active in the hobby again with
several projects on the burner.
