Nickelodeon Piano Co. of Huntsville, Alabama
By Ronald Hardwig
Does anybody know anything about the nickelodeons made in the 1970s
in Huntsville, Alabama, by the Nickelodeon Piano Co.?
I am trying to rebuild one for a gentleman but the standard "O" roll
tracker bar setup is not being used for play and reroll. What the
Nickelodeon Piano Company did was to take a standard small upright
piano made by Aeolian and then put all the instruments on top and put
the tracking bar system underneath. See photo.
They also used what I would call a dump valve on top of the suction
box. As problems came up with the system it looks like someone put
masking tape on the dump valve openings. See the next 2 photos.
This was a very odd system, in that they used Aeolian valves in which
if air were allowed go into the valve pouch it would shut off the
bypass of the vacuum. As these valves had been rendered useless,
I am in no position to figure out what their intention was. I do not
know if they could have been used independently to decrease the amount
of vacuum incrementally on the system and if so, why?
Does anybody know anything about the Nickelodeon Piano Company
instruments or where I might find some information?
