I was saddened to note on MMD 210409 of the passing of Hans Van Oost.
We were restoring our 1900 Wellershaus organ about 1995 after
professionals had said it was beyond restoration.
The organ started life in Germany as a hand-cranked barrel organ
but was converted to a keyframe design in Holland in the mid 1930s.
We had it playing but it sounded like a random rehearsal. We obviously
needed assistance in getting enough information to tube the keyframe
properly.
I forget how we were put in touch with Hans but it was suggested
he would know relevant information. Hans put out our problem to the
Dutch fairground organ organization [Kring van Draaiorgelvrienden]
and we got the needed information from two different sources (they
both agreed). We might have figured it out by ourselves, but I wouldn't
want to bet on it.
So thanks to Hans we now have a 120-year-old organ playing for our
museum tours.

[ After receiving the later information from Hans, Scotty wrote:
[ "I am now glad to report success. The information furnished by
[ several sources all came together on March 21 [2002] when I
[ reconnected the tubing from the book music reader to the organ.
[ About 15 of the 58 notes were wrong, and after much struggle we
[ got them all reconnected for a try at the suggested scale."
