I mentioned in our fundraising drive at the end of the year that we were
working on migrating to a new server. Last Friday I pointed out in an
article to the group that the process is complicated and might result in
some outages along the way. I asked for your patience ;-)
The migration is completed and appears to be successful. This includes
the 48+ hours that it takes for the entire world to see the IP of
the new server. Robbie is back online connecting to the new server.
The new software I wrote to accommodate the more modern server software
seems to be sufficiently functional for Robbie to generate new Digests,
although there are still an annoying amount of diagnostic messages
for him to wade through until I'm satisfied that they are no longer
needed.
While we still believe that the MMD website's contact form is valuable,
I am cautiously inviting those of you with articles to submit with
attachments to try mailing to the rolls-1701 account WITH your attachments.
The new software will extract the attachments and place them on the
server for Robbie.
I recommend that if you submit using the Contact form that you keep a
copy of what you typed in -- or better yet, fill the form in by copying
from a document you prepared in a text editor. This is ALWAYS a good
idea whether it is our web form or someone else's. Web forms are
notorious for losing input.
While we think everything is working correctly now, if you don't see
something you submitted get published within a couple of days, please
resubmit it or contact us via e-mail and let us know that something's up.
Thank you for interest in and support of the MMD. --Jody
