Fair Organ Sound Synthesizer for MIDI File Test
By Dale F. Rowe

David, Greetings from The Bronx (a borough of New York City, New
York, USA). Regarding your inquiry about testing MIDI files of organ
arrangements, the MIDI program known as Cakewalk has a feature which
allows you to create your own organ scaled parameters in the program
(the scale files have a .cal extension).

Although I've never tried it, I understand that it's rather labor
intensive getting the tracks apportioned. What I had been using
Cakewalk for is the editing of various types of MIDI files. As for
sampling the pipe tones of your organ, there are others more savvy
at achieving this and then inserting them into the program.

When I edited Weber Maesto files, I used the available soundfonts of my
SoundBlaster sound card. When I played these back through the Cakewalk
program I had very satisfactory results. (I had programmed both soft
and sustain pedaling in the files.) But when I tried playing them back
through the soundcard in my laptops, it appears as though the on/off
controls for the pedaling had been reversed, making the resulting music
hard to listen to.

But back to your dilemma, there once was a program known as 'Midiboek'
(as it's originator seems to be missing, as well as the program). The
link below lists the creators name and website (also defunct). The
original offering of this free program was only available in Dutch,
but was later available in English, and I presume in other languages
as well. In the program you could create different organ scales, these
would have a .gam extension.

According to the program's creator, there were already various popular
scales already included with the program. For quite a while there was
a lot of interest in this program with several contributors adding
additional scales.

I hope that some of this will be helpful to you,

Stay Safe, and have a Happy and Healthy New Year!
