Error in QRS AMP-1002 Ampico "A" Test Roll
By Craig Sander

Has anyone else noticed a problem with the QRS AMP-1002 Ampico Model
"A" Test Roll? It was driving me crazy. After setting pressures using
vacuum gauges, I would play the test roll. At the treble portion of
the repetition test I found that it was too loud and so I would adjust
the Crescendo spring screw to get soft, consistent repetitions. I would
then play a roll and find that the treble was way too soft.

After puzzling over this for a while, I looked carefully at the
expression punches on the test roll. To my shock and surprise, I found
that the punch that occurs during this section of the test was over T6
(No. 6 Intensity Valve) rather than T7 (Cancel Valve). The bass portion
of the repetition test is fine, with the punch over B7 (Cancel Valve)
as it should be.

Do other Ampico "A" test rolls have this issue?

I've attached photos of the roll leader and the treble expression punch
during the repetition test.
