Hi Group, Many years ago I was trying to identify, repair, and reprint
labels for Wurlitzer APP rolls in my collection. Alan Brehaut is one
who sent roll label information so I could print new labels. I was able
to buy the boxes, at that time, from Doyle Lane. I die-cut chip board
to make the inner box like Wurlitzer used.
I contacted Durrell Armstrong at PPCo. about the bails. At that time
they were about $1.95 each. It turned out that they were out of stock
and Durrell had no plans to make more. He did not wish to tell me where
he had them manufactured as that company made other parts for PPCo.
At this point I decided to make own bails. I bought red book cloth
from Gane Brothers and Lane bookbinding supplies and cut it to size.
I bought copper clad welding rod at a local supplier cut it to size
and rounded the ends.
I then folded about 1/2 inch of the cloth over the rod and used
a sewing machine to stitch the cloth along the rod. This left the
pocket too large to hold the rod, so I stitched a second line an eighth
of an inch from the first line reducing the pocket size for a closer
fit to the rod. I then put a drop of glue in the end of the rod pocket
and pushed the rod into the pocket centering it.
A photo is attached showing an original and the one I made. I have not
had one fail in over ten years. I also have extra reprinted 5-tune APP
labels. If you will send the roll number of labels you need, I will
send the labels if I have them.
