Wurlitzer's Automatic Player Piano (APP) arrangers turned out some of
the best coin-piano music for their instruments for about three decades
from about 1915 to 1945. These rolls produced in both 5-tune roll
changer and 10-tune long-frame formats are outstanding and offer a
positive musical diversion from the typical QRS masters that were used
for so many other types of coin-piano rolls during that period. Those
who know seek out the many Wurlitzer instruments in such styles as
A, B, C, I, AX, BX, CX, IX, and LX to enjoy this music.
Even if you are familiar with Wurlitzer APP music, be sure to listen
to some of the sample recordings played on a Wurlitzer CX APP machine
representative of these files here:

Note the style of the Wurlitzer arrangers, so different and enjoyable.
Matt Jaro and I are scanning and preserving about 500 APP rolls, with
a tune catalog in the 4,000 range. Besides preserving and rescuing the
music from many brittle rolls for future generations, we are turning
these files into playable MIDI files that are available for those with
MIDI-equipped APP machines. We have made arrangements with several
MIDI installer professionals who can install a non-invasive MIDI system
in your APP instrument at home over 1-2 days.
MIDI files when purchased in bulk are as low as $2 per tune, and the
MIDI installation is surprisingly affordable.
Do you have a Seeburg H instrument? All of these MIDI files are also
transcribed for the Seeburg H. These same MIDI installer professionals
can install a MIDI system in your Seeburg H that can play these APP
MIDI transcriptions and over 2,000 H MIDI files.
Don't have an APP machine or plan to acquire one but want to enjoy
this music? These MIDI files can be played on your computer with a
simulation program to sound like a Wurlitzer CX! We can assist you
with that setup.
Go to https://www.wurlitzer165.net/midi-files to learn more about this
project, see a list of professional MIDI installers, and listen to
many APP files played both on a Wurlitzer CX and the APP transcriptions
played on a Seeburg H. Also, recent AMICA Bulletins including the
Nov-Dec 2020 and the Jan-Feb 2021 editions have more articles about
this music and MIDI.
Matt Jaro and I are happy to provide more information.
