 [ Orchestrion Atlantic, Sep 24, 2020
 [
[ 'Click, click, click' as you turn and the heavy weight behind the
[ instrument rises. Put a coin in it and the whole room fills with the
[ cheerful music of yesteryear. Normally you only come across such
[ an instrument in a museum. It will be from around 1900 and it has
[ always been carefully preserved and in good condition, complete
[ with coin box and crest. It used to stand in a country house in
[ the Netherlands, in Limburg. Later it was carefully preserved
[ by a member of the family. I got it in 1994 and it was still in
[ good condition. I cleaned it, reinforced the wooden frame and then
[ tuned it. Afterwards it was no longer tuned but still remained
 [ quite pure.
 [
[ There are two cylinders with 6 melodies each (Nos. 18642 & 18643).
[ The piano part consists of 38 tones, [the uppermost] 10 of which
[ play with a mandolin effect. The cylinder also controls a small
[ drum, a triangle and a cymbal. There is also a special track for
[ muted playing and there are "high and low pins" on the cylinder that
[ allow it to play music passages loud or soft. The orchestrion can be
[ operated via coin insertion or manually and with rotary knobs on the
[ side a new song can be selected and the tempo set. There is also a
[ control lever to hear the same song 2 or 3 times in sucession.
 [
[ The dimensions are Height, including crest, is approx. 2.3 m,
[ Width approx. 1 m, Depth approx. 0.6 m. The weight of the cabinet
[ is approx. 200 kg and the weight is 90 kg. The weight shows MOD
 [ cast in the iron. V.XVII.XX (Model 5.18.20 ??).
 [
[ Who knows more about, e.g., year of construction? It is a beautiful
 [ and rare instrument.
