Unknown Adhesive in Kranich & Bach Player Action

Could it possibly be "rubber cement"?  It stays pliable for a long
time, but could eventually dry out and be rock hard, though it tends
to be crumbly then in my experience.  Something like acetone would
probably liquefy it; I don't know about the solvents you've tried.
