Hello MMDers, Included in a recent purchase of perforated music
rolls were six music rolls that appear to be for a coin-operated
piano orchestrion. Slips of paper inside some of the boxes,
with comments by a previous owner, refer to mandolin effect and
wood-block. The rolls are all made by Notenrollenfabrik "Excelsior"
(G. Bacigalupo) Berlin and have catalogue numbers in a 500 number
range. The paper width is 222 mm (8-3/4 inches).
Not all the boxes retain their printed labels and the rolls
themselves have no labels, just the ink-stamped catalogue number
as well as maker's name and address, also ink-stamped. I have
identified these rolls:
538 Dichter und Bauer,
512 Liebesfreud (Kreisler) and Polonaise (Schwarenka),
583 Vom Rhein zur Donau - Lieder Potpourri.
I would be grateful if anyone can tell me what instrument or
instruments these rolls are intended for. I understand that
Bacigalupo made perforated rolls of several formats.
